In rugged relief, the entire cluster of islands which comprise Chichi Jima lies below attacking 7th AAF Consolidated B-24 Liberators from which this remarkable picture was taken as they completed their bomb run. To bottle up attempts of Japanese to strike southward from Tokyo through these Bonin Islands, regular Liberator raids are made on Chichi shipping in large harbor at left center of island. Heavy damage has been inflicted on port facilities and many ships have been sunk.
