IWO JIMA - First B-29 on Iwo with Marine artillery- spotting plane in foreground. 2 March 1945. The B-29 was forced to make an emergency landing on Iwo after a raid on Tokyo. Inability to transfer fuel from one tank to another forced the huge plane down. It landed on the 4,000 ft. runway end took off again two hours later.
