Caption Shortly after midnight or 25 April 1945, fire in a gasoline dump on the East Beach on Iwo Jima, Bonin Islands, spread to an ammunition dump about 1/2 mile from Vll Fighter Command area. All personnel was evacuated from the tent areas. One blast about 3 a.m. leveled about 2/3 of the tents in the area, smashed in the front of General Ernest Moore's quonset hut and two adjoining Hits. This is a view of the area on the following day.
