Shortly after midnight on 25 April 1945, fire in a gasoline dump on the East Beach on Iwo Jima, Bonin Islands, spread to an ammunition dump about J mile from Vll Fighter Command area. All personnel was evacuated from the tent areas. One blast about 3:00 A.M. leveled 2/3 of the tents in the area, smashed in the front of General Ernest Moore's Quonset hut and two adjoining huts.
