Moore goes to his plane - the North American P-51 "Stinger VII" - for a trip to Japan - to strafe an airfield near Osaka. He wears a parachute and Mae West. In the plane he will put on a one-man life raft which also serves as a seat. He also wears a helmet with oxygen mask, carries a .45, dye markers, and on his back, on top of everything else, he straps a small pack with cartridges, jungle kit, food ration and a first aid kit. All told, Major Moore has slightly more than 80 pounds on his back when he takes off for Japan. Iwo Jima, Bonin Islands.
