A North American P-51 "Mustang", piloted by Capt. Raymond J. Betner of the 47th FS, 15th Fighter Group, crashed when it came in for a landing on South Field, Bonin Islands. It was the third "Mustang" that landed on the field. Capt. Betner hails from Hoosick Falls, New York. 5 March 1945.
