As another North American p-51 Mustang takes off for Japan, four foamite-drenched fire fighters of the 7th Fighter Command based on Iwo Jima combat the flakes of a burning P-51 which crashed on takeoff. The pilot, 2nd Lt. Loraine C. Lane, Shelby, Montana, escaped with an arm burn. Exploding ammunition in the plane drove away fire fighters. The plane was a complete loss.
